Local Kempsey Attractions
Set on the banks of the mighty Macleay River, Kempsey was originally established as a timber and dairy hub and retains many of its historic buildings as a vestige of its past. Home to two great Australian icons – country music legend Slim Dusty, and the Akubra hat, which has been made in the town for the past 50 years – Kempsey is surrounded by national parks and just a short drive from the beautiful beaches of the Macleay Valley Coast.

Slim Dusty Centre
The Slim Dusty Centre, located in Slim's hometown of Kempsey, is a multi-purpose facility offering Visitor Information, a Retail Shop, the Nulla Nulla Art Gallery, Dusty's Dinner Camp Cafe and of course the Famous Slim Dusty Museum. You can also find 'Nulla' the Koala from the wonderful Hello Koala's Sculpture trail residing at the centre! The Museum exhibition features objects and images from the Kirkpatrick family's own archive and contributions from fans and friends all over the world.

Wigay Aboriginal Culture Park
Wigay Aboriginal Cultural Park in Kempsey provides a unique opportunity to experience local Aboriginal culture and learn about traditional foods, all within a natural parkland setting Wander through the 2.75 hectare park at your own pace, or take an interactive guided tour to learn which of the many native trees, shrubs and plants are used by Aboriginal people for food and medicinal purposes.

Collombatti Lookout
Collombatti Lookout offers 360 degrees views of the Macleay Valley Coast, on a clear day see from Mt Yarrahapinni to Crescent Head along the coast. There are also views of Kempsey to the south and Bellbrook's Andersons Sugarloaf Mountain to the west. Cedar Park Picnic Area is nearby on the Cedar Park Scenic Drive. The road is unsealed and four wheel drive is required, access is via Frederickton or Greenhill.

Stoney Aqua Park
Stoney Aqua Park covers a huge area and boasts a wide array of inflatable fun items for everyone’s enjoyment, suitable for ages from 7 all the way up to the elderly.
Slides, blast bags, trampolines, swings, challenge tracks, balance beams, wobble pads and chill out areas are just a few of the many and varied features enclosed within the extensive walkways and floating tracks of the course.

Willi Willi National Park
Willi Willi National Park is west of Kempsey and is in both Kempsey and Hastings Shires. The main visitor area at Wilson River has a picnic area, barbecues, amenities block and three walking tracks. The roads are unsealed and there are also four-wheel drive areas. From Kempsey take the Kookaburra Scenic Drive, along Willi Willi Road to its end, turn left into Carrai Road to see a waterfall and lookouts.

Kalateenee Mountain Bike Trails
The Kalateenee Mountain Bike Trails are made up of 20-25 kilometres of mountain bike trails in Kalateenee State Forrest just outside of Kempsey. The trails are maintained to a high standard and available for public and visitors to use free of charge. The tracks are set in stunning bush scenery with towering Eucalyptus, Ironbark and Bushbox trees to be seen from nearly every angle.

Kempsey Golf Club
Kempsey Golf Club is located on the Macleay Valley Way, five kilometres south of the Kempsey CBD. Their facilities include an 18 hole golf course, practice fairway/driving range, and licensed Club House (gaming and bar facilities).
Their golf course (par 72) has a natural bushland setting with a creek and dam which makes the course interesting and enjoyable for golfers of all standards. Resident kangaroos are a daily feature and occasionally other native fauna make an appearance.

Boyters Lane Bird Hide
Take in in the wealth of bird life at the Boyters Lane Bird Hide on the way into South West Rocks.
Built on an old dairy farm, the bird hide is placed within a tranquil area of rehabilitated bushland, mangrove and saltmarsh. Stroll along the recently built walkway, read the information board and be sure to being your binoculars!

South Smoky Beach
South Smoky Beach stretches north to Smoky Cape Lighthouse and has 4WD access for those with a beach driving permit.
South Smoky Beach is a long sandy beach where you can pull up a million miles from anyone and have the beach to yourself which is great if you want to go sunbaking away from the crowds.

Trail Bay Gaol
Step back in time on a guided tour of Trial Bay Gaol, soaking up the history and the amazing coastal views that surround it.
The gaol opened in 1886, after 13 years of construction. It must have been a strange feeling building a prison in such a beautiful setting. Today, this picturesque historic ruin stands as a testament to those who lived and died here, with a museum and memorial for visitors to get a better idea of life in those days.
